Lulu Guiness x Tangle Teezer: The Design Diary

The Design Diary

In 2015 Tangle Teezer embarked on our first ever designer collaboration with iconic British designer, Lulu Guinness. The stylish partnership was such a hit, that we’ve teamed up again this year and worked on a brand new Lulu print to decorate our Compact Styler.

Read on to learn more about the design process and how two great British design minds came together in a very fashionable collaboration.

The Print

We loved the red retro-inspired lips of our last collaboration (and so did you). They instantly speak of Lulu Guinness – who is famed for her slick of red lipstick and love of all things vintage – so it was the obvious choice. Not wanting to deviate too far from the lips theme this season, we chose a bold, graphic lipstick print from Lulu Guinness’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. We love its subtle Art Deco vibe but how it still manages to look super modern.

The Colours

The pantone colours used on the array of lipsticks found in the print were of course very important. The pink, red and berry tones worked perfectly against the stark black and white background of the print and we had to choose pretty pink teeth to match the lipsticks!

The Design

Laying the graphic lipstick print on our on-the-go detangling brush, the Compact Styler, the teams had to agree on the placement of the print. Would we go vertical or diagonal? In the end, the TT and LG teams decided on a vertical placement. After all, the name of the print is the Vertical Lipstick print and it worked with the palm-friendly curve of the brush much better in this format.

The Design

Within a few weeks we had samples of our new Tangle Teezer x Lulu Guinness design arrive from our British factory and the teams met to sign off and let the Compact Stylers go into production. A limited edition style from two great British brands, be sure to get yours before they’re gone.
